Traveling is perhaps one of the most intense and fulfilling life experiences a person can have. Traveling allows us to meet people and places that we will remember throughout our lives.

And one of the best ways to relive these memories is to take photos of the most beautiful corners and those that most awaken our attention. In this way, we will not only be able to have a beautiful photo album, but we will also be able to put them on our social networks and share them with our family and friends.

Few cities have as many corners worthy of being photographed and remembered as Córdoba. From Vitium we want to give you a small guide on your visit to Córdoba, so that you can keep an unforgettable memory of it.

The Calleja de Las Flores: The most emblematic photo of Córdoba:

In the heart of the Jewish quarter, very close to the Mosque, we can find this small and charming street, one of the most traditional in the city. It climbs gently up to the small square where it ends. The barred balconies are filled with flowers, aromatizing the traveler’s walk. From the fountain located in the center of the square we can enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the Mosque tower.

The Roman Bridge and the Calahorra Tower: Views at Sunset.

The Roman Bridge is located over the Guadalquivir River and connects the Campo de la Verdad neighborhood with the Cathedral District. It is also known as the Old Bridge, since it was the only bridge that the city had for twenty centuries, until the construction of the San Rafael Bridge in the mid-twentieth century.

At the southern end of the bridge, we can find the Calahorra Tower, a control and defense enclave since ancient times. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was declared a historic-artistic monument. After having had different uses, it currently houses the Living Museum of Al-Andalus, about the coexistence between Jewish, Christian and Muslim cultures.

From these two historic monuments we can have spectacular views of the city, especially at sunset, when the sun projects its last rays on the Guadalquivir, creating an atmosphere full of magic.

The Mosque-Cathedral: Details that you cannot miss:

And naturally, on our trip to Córdoba we cannot forget the Mosque, the most visited monument in the city and one of the most visited in Spain. Did you know that the Mosque of Córdoba is the only Muslim construction in the world with Catholic worship?

Any corner of this impressive architectural complex is worth photographing, but from Vitium we would like to point out the following:

– Columned courtyard. If there is one element that stands out above all the others, it is its impressive columned courtyard. This courtyard is the most notable element of its interior, and one of its hallmarks.

– Patio de los Naranjos. The name of this courtyard is due to its current plantation: ninety-eight orange trees arranged in rows that date back to at least the end of the 18th century. If you come to Córdoba in spring, you will be able to enjoy the wonderful smell of orange blossom (“azahar” in Spanish) emanating from the orange trees. As a curiosity, we tell you that the Spanish word “azahar” comes from the Hispanic Arabic “azzahár”, and this, from the classical Arabic” zahr”, flowers, and means white flower, and by antonomasia, that of the orange tree, lemon tree and citron tree.

The Patios of Córdoba

The patios of Córdoba are one of the great attractions of the city. These “patios”, owned by individuals, are cared for with great care and affection by their owners. These courtyards can be visited at any time of the year, but there is a special time, the first half of May, when the Festival of Cordoban Courtyards takes place and the courtyards shine in all their splendor.

No visit to Cordoba is complete without a visit to its courtyards, where you can admire the interior charm of traditional Cordoban houses.

Plaza del Potro: Andalusian Charm in a Historic Space

The Plaza del Potro is one of the most representative squares of the city, located in the San Francisco-Ribera neighborhood.

In the center of it is the Potro fountain, whose top is the figure of a colt raising its hands holding a sign with the city’s coat of arms. This Renaissance-style fountain dates back to 1577, and the colt with which it is topped gives its name to the square. Formelrly, it was a meeting place for the city’s rogues and criminals.

This historic square also has its own particular legend. It is said that on stormy nights you can see a presence wandering through the rooms of La Posada del Potro, which operated as such until 1972. This presence would be the soul in pain of the innkeeper who ran it during the 14th century, and who was executed for having robbed and murdered several of his guests, and who since then is condemned to eternally wander through the old Inn.

As you can see, any place in Córdoba is full of charm and deserves to be visited and photographed.

And naturally, to be able to enjoy everything the city has to offer, you need good accommodation. And this can be offered by Vitium Córdoba, in the heart of the historic center, just three minutes’ walk from the Mosque, and which is the best starting point to begin your visit to Córdoba.

Live the full experience of your trip to Córdoba from Vitium!
