Córdoba is a place full of charm, which never ceases to surprise us. In every corner, in every nook, this city shows us all its history and the charm of its streets and squares.
But it is not only in Córdoba capital that we can find places that delight any traveler. Córdoba can be the starting point for short getaways, which will turn our trip into an unforgettable experience.
Priego de Córdoba: Baroque and Nature
If there is a place that combines the perfect union between art and Nature, this is undoubtedly Priego de Córdoba. It is known as the “city of water” due to the large number of springs in its surroundings and “jewel of the Cordoban Baroque” due to the numerous Baroque style buildings that we can find there. Below we indicate some of the places that you cannot miss on your visit to this wonderful town, located in the southeast of the province of Córdoba, just one hour from the capital:
- El Balcón del Adarve. It is an open natural balcony, where we can find three fountains, from which water flows continuously, constituting a natural wonder, which enchants all who contemplate it.
- Barrio de la Villa. This neighborhood of Andalusian origin, which was declared a historical-artistic site in 1972, borders the Balcón del Adarve and is adjacent to the castle of Priego. It stands out for its architecture, which reminds us of neighborhoods with the Albaicín of Granada, or the Jewish quarter of Córdoba, with small streets, white walls, and full of flowers.
- Calle del Río. It has this name because it is the natural course of the Fuente de la Salud (now underground) which gives it a zigzag shape. On this street you can see various places where the wealthy families of Priego lived.
- Fuente del Rey. Baroque in style and declared a National Heritage Site, it is located next to the Fuente de la Salud from the 16th century, in the centre of the city and is made up of 139 jets, many of them with stone masks and three ponds located at different levels and elongated in shape in which curved contours predominate, and which is surrounded by seats in its entirety. In the three ponds we can admire figures of animals and mythological beings.
Montilla: Wine Route and Heritage
Andalusia is a land of wines. Their extraordinary quality of them has given it a well-deserved international fame. There are many towns in which wine production is one of the most important factors in their economy.
Among these towns with the most weight as wine producers, we can highlight Montilla. Not in vain, one of the oldest denominations of origin in Spain is that of Montilla-Moriles, recognized in 1932 through the Statute of the Vineyard and Wine, and which legally protects the names of Montilla and Moriles.
But Montilla is more than just its wines. Montilla has an important historical heritage, such as its Historical Museum. The collections of this museum come from the sites located in the Montilla region. The museum contains different pieces that go from Prehistory to the 19th century. Among the elements of the collection, you can see fossils, minerals, iron objects, Iberian votive offerings, glass and bronzes.

Zuheros is a municipality located in the southeast of the province of Córdoba and its entire area is included in the Natural Park of the Subbetic mountains.
Zuheros has an extraordinary overall beauty, as it combines the limestone of its mountains, the enormous olive groves, and the whitewash of its houses. Its streets smell of tradition and history, presided over by the impressive Castillo Roquero. The castle’s origins are Arabic, dating back to the 9th century, and it is currently a Renaissance palace.
And of course, we cannot forget the Cueva de Los Murciélagos (Mutton Cave). This cave has been declared a site of cultural interest and was inhabited from the Middle Paleolithic to Roman times. Inside, the Sala de las Formaciones (Room of the Formations), with a large stalactite called asparagus, and the Sala del Órgano (Organ Room), with a wall of beautiful rock figures, and of course, the deepest rooms, where various kinds of bats that gave this cave its name still live.
