fin de semana en cordoba

Cordoba is a city for walkers. In each of its streets, in each of its corners, we can find something that surprises us and invites us to contemplate it.

Getting to know Córdoba and discovering all its charm takes time, a time that you may not have. That is why at Vitium, we want to give you some small recommendations, so that you can enjoy the main attractions that the city offers you during your weekend in Córdoba

Day 1: The essential Mézquita-Catedral of Córdoba, Walk through the Jewish Quarter and the Alcázar de los Reyes

The Mezquita of Córdoba is one of the most amazing monuments in the world, the most important in the entire Islamic West and one of the most visited in Spain. It is declared a Site of Cultural Interest and was declared a World Heritage Site in 1984.

The Mezquita is the living history of the evolution of the Umayyad style in Spain, as well as the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles of Christian construction. As a curiosity, we point out that the Mezquita is the only Arab construction in the world with a Catholic cult.

A short distance from the Mezquita, we can find the historic Jewish quarter of the city. Like the Mezquita, it is also declared a World Heritage Site.

From an urban planning point of view, the Jewish quarter has the typical Islamic layout, with two central transversal streets and a labyrinth of small roads that sometimes end in typical dead ends. Walking through these small streets makes the traveler feel transported back in time and imbued with all its charm.

In the Jewish quarter we can visit the Synagogue, one of the most important monuments in Córdoba. It was built in the 14th century and is one of the oldest synagogues in Spain that has been preserved. Admission is free and you can admire its architectural beauty and learn more about the city’s Jewish history. Its interior, although small, is richly decorated with Hebrew inscriptions and geometric details in plaster. It is an emotional place that allows you to better understand the rich Sephardic history of the city.

And after the walk through the Jewish quarter, there is nothing better than heading to the Alcázar de los Reyes. This ancient fortress contains within it a large part of the architectural evolution of Córdoba. Roman and Visigoth remains coexist with those of Arab origin, as it was a favorite place for the different rulers of the city.

Day 2: Walk along the Roman Bridge and the Calahorra Tower

A good way to start our second day in Córdoba is to take a walk along the Roman Bridge. It is located on the Guadalquivir River as it passes through Córdoba, and connects the Campo de la Verdad neighborhood with the Cathedral neighborhood. It is also known as the “Old Bridge”, as it was the only bridge the city had for twenty centuries, until the San Rafael Bridge was built in the mid-twentieth century.

At the southern end of the Roman Bridge stands the Calahorra Tower of Córdoba, a control and defense enclave since ancient times. Like the Bridge, it has been declared a historical-artistic monument. After various uses, it currently houses the Living Museum of al-Andalus, about the coexistence between Jewish, Christian and Muslim cultures.

To finish: Relax in an Arab Hammam

The end of the day has arrived. It has been a day full of experiences and enjoyment, but also exhausting. We have walked the streets of Córdoba, and we need rest and relaxation.

And to rest, there is nothing better than immersing ourselves in the placidity and enchantment of an Arab bath. Listening to relaxing music and the soft light of candles, we will feel transported to a world of magic and comfort. At number 51 on Corregidor Luis de la Cerda Street, just a few meters from Vitium Córdoba, we find the Hamman Al-Andalus, where we can visit its thermal baths with waters at different temperatures and rest our body and mind.

And after the Arab baths and to finish our rest, there is nothing like the comfortable rooms of Vitium Córdoba, equipped with everything necessary to end our weekend in the best way, and keep an unforgettable memory of our time in the city.

As you can see, Córdoba and Vitium have everything the traveler needs to live a weekend full of experiences.

Go ahead! Córdoba and Vitium are waiting for you!
